Hey Cultivators! 🌿
If you’ve ever started lettuce seeds in a hydroponic system, you know how quickly they can grow! Before long, the seedlings need more space to stretch out and thrive. That’s exactly what I tackled in my latest planting session. Which you can watch Live!
This time, I focused on two varieties: Tokyo Bekana Lettuce and Butter Crunch Lettuce. Both started in my indoor hydroponic setup, and they were getting a little too cozy with their neighbors. To give them the space they deserve, I carefully thinned the seedlings and prepared them for their new homes.
Here’s what was done:
✅ Transferred Lettuce to the GreenStalk Planter 🪴
Moving some of the seedlings outdoors into the GreenStalk planter not only gives them more space, but also allows them to enjoy natural sunlight and fresh air. It’s a great way to transition hydroponic starts into soil or container gardening.
✅ Set Up Individual Hydroponic Spaces 🌿
For the remaining seedlings staying in hydroponics, I created individual setups to improve airflow and reduce crowding. Better spacing helps prevent issues like mold and gives each plant plenty of light and nutrients.
✅ Shared Tips for Reducing Transplant Shock 💡
Handling thinned seedlings can be tricky! I shared my go-to tips for minimizing transplant shock, like gentle handling, proper hydration, and giving them a little time to adjust to their new environment.
